Easy Workout- Thumbs Up!

by GC 2009-02-05, 100 people found this review helpful
I read a lot of reviews before I bought this. I was a bit hesitant because it received so many mixed reviews, but I decided to buy it anyways. I am very happy with this product. I know people were complaining that they had bruises from using it, but I'm not sure what they were doing because I haven't had that problem.

I read the instructions to take it slow and not do more than 2minutes a day when you start, so I didn't get any bruising, but I did feel that i was getting a workout. My skin gets red from the weight of the hula hoop, but it goes away immediately. I just do it for a 5 mins in the morning and 5 minutes at night while watching TV, and it's such a quick way to do something instead of nothing.

I definitely recommend this product for anyone who wants a mild, easy, mindless workout. I think 3lbs was a good call for someone my size (5'2" 115lbs). If you do get it, don't be intimidated by the size of the hula hoop. It looks like it may be really difficult because it's not the hula hoop you remember as a child, but it really is quite manageable. Hope this helps!

Exercise Hula-Hoop

This product is fun. I cannot hula hoop with a light store bought hoop and it took me several tries to work this hoop (I am 48 years old)but I did it after a few days. It's good exericse picking up the hoop while practicing. I was surprised that I can go in both directions too. I lost 5 lbs in one week and hoop for 10 minutes every night. I did not get bruised like other people have stated. However, my sister who had purchased one had a few bruises. I think the ridges on the inside are helpful with keeping hoop on but if you feel you may bruise too easily, then go for a smooth weighted one.

Great hoop, Bad DVD

by aclapper 2009-02-05, 51 people found this review helpful
I just purchased the 3-lb Sports Hoop and love it. I also purchased the Sports Hoop exercise DVD, which I absolutely hate. The instruction is poor, the instructor's voice is monotone, the routines are questionable--the entire video is amateurish. Unfortunately, the vendor does not accept returns, so it was a waste of $16 plus shipping for the DVD. Hoop great; DVD very disappointing.

Good beginner hoop, if you don't mind a few bruises

My husband and I wanted to begin hooping, but were a little unsure of our success considering our ages (49 & 50) and considerable lack of experience (ie. none). After reading the reviews here, we landed on this 3 lb Acu Hoop. This hoop was a great starter hoop and still one we like to come back to from time to time. The 3 lbs of weight really help keep the hoop up, as the weightier the hoop, the easier it is to stay aloft. However, just as a warning, those same 3 lbs also will cause bruising around your waist/hips (and anywhere else it might whack you while you're learning). This was not a big deal to us, as it was proving our success.

We've since learned that a lighter weight "professional" hoop (1.5-2 lbs) is actually a better work-out, as you have to use your muscles to a greater degree to keep it up. However, I'm still very glad we started with this hoop, as we would have been too discouraged to continue with another lighter one. The whole hooping experience has been great fun and we're seeing results in our waistlines!

Totally Fun and it works!

I was so excited to order and get my workout hula hoop. .... I mean, how great to have workout instructions that LIMITS you to 2 minutes a day for the first week! But when I got it and put it together I couldn't do it for more than 8 rotations. (My 15 year old boy did it for 50 as if it was nothing. Punk.) But I kept at it, even getting some pretty bad bruises for a while. I thought it was too big for me (I'm only 5 feet tall) and went to a sports mega store to see if there was a smaller one. They gave me a very strange look when I asked for a "workout hula hoop."

I had to stop for a week when I went on a business trip (it was too awkward to pack or explain to my colleagues).

But when I got back... magic! The bruises were healed and I found my hula groove. Now I do about 30 minutes a day while I catch up on my recorded television. My core feels solid, my pants are loose and I don't even feel like I am exercising. Plus it's fun. No matter how bad your day is, how can you be stressed or worried when you are hula hooping! I might, however, get grumpy if I DON'T hoop.

Love it !

Understand firstly that NOT EVERYONE is a natural hula - hooper. Be patient and stick with it - you will be proud of yourself when you get it. After a few weeks of use (30 minutes per week) My massage therapist told me that my middle back has never looked so good; a part of the body I of course don't see. You may also be sore for the first few weeks. Be sure to hula over clothing and NOT on bare skin. As an X-aerobics instructor, I appreciate this fun way to exercise my core while watching TV for just 5 minutes at a time; 2 times per day for 3 days per week. Trust me it's worth it.

Acu Hoop 3 lbs.

Amazing! It really works! First week of using this device was a lil bit rough (mainly b/c i did it last time in childhood). I started from 1 min, than moved to 2 min... etc. Today is day 15 and i can use it 20 min in the row without any bad feelings and bruises. I love it! Even my husband started to do it when he saw how impressed i was!
This it great item, you will understand and appreciate it after the first week of hooping... if you succesfully survive this first week. Lol.

Great Cardio workout!

I love Hula hooping! It's fun and I don't have to spend alot of time in a gym to get a good workout. I feel it in my arms, abs and legs the next day.
Yes, it falls apart IF you don't put it together correctly. After you attach the last part, go around and push each attachment together until you hear them pop into each other.

Happy hooping!

Hula Hoop-weighted 3 pounds

by Daisy Duck 2009-02-21, 12 people found this review helpful
The hula hoop is great. They are heavy enough for you to keep them up even if you could not keep a plastic one up as a kid. They do tend to make your muscles sore at first but that is because you are working muscles in a place you usually don't. The soreness goes away in a few days and if you can do at least 5 minutes in each direction you are on your way to a slimmed down waist and hips.

It was a little hard to do at first but with a little perserverance I am hooping for up to 10 minutes at a time in the 2nd week. It is a lot of fun, I only got a small bruise once. My friend got one too and loves it.
